In a trailer released Monday, we got a sneak peek at Pokeémon: Detective Pikachu, the bizarre live-action attempt to bring the beloved game characters to life. Twitter latched on to one scene from the trailer in which an irate Jigglypuff performs in a grungy music lounge.
And people couldn’t help drawing comparisons between the musical Pokémon and Ally Maine (a.k.a. Lady Gaga) from A Star Is Born. Maybe Jigglypuff just needs to find its own Jackson Maine!
From the drag bar where Ally belted out “La Vie En Rose” to the heartbreaking scene where Jackson sings “I’ll Never Love Again” to his superstar wife, Jigglypuff just … fits so well.
Someone even recreated the most iconic A Star Is Born meme with Pikachu and Jigglypuff.
It’s unlikely that Detective Pikachu will carry the same emotional weight as A Star Is Born, but the memes it spawned are still pure gold.
